First Biggie and Tupac, and now...

The music world is in turmoil with the retirement of M.C. Rove. Though his music career was brief, it was steeped in the kind of sinister street cred that even the most hard core 'gangsta' rap artist strives for. His lyrics consisted of nothing more than "M.C. Rove," but those simple words launched him into the Hip Hop Parthenon, much like Lil Jon. I think no broadcast truly captured the moment as well as this one:

Rove may be the whitest white guy on the planet. Came out of the Dirty Tricks bureau of the Nixon White House and never looked back. Should have been barred from political campaigns long ago, but of course ethics is a detriment when you're a Republican operative. One of the most hated, divisive figures in American political history.

That he is.

The 'M.C. Rove' ordeal, however, was great. This guy made a complete and total ass of himself. That immediately takes him down from "Palpatine" to "Dr. Evil" on the movie villain scale. It also completely and totally failed to humanize him in any way, shape, or form.

NPR was fawning over how Rove "took pride in his collection of goofy ties," and how he "had a classic Rove moment, opening a box of cookies and passing them out."

Hard-hitting reporting there. Never mind his snubbing of a subpoena and his backroom smear campaigns. Let's talk about how fun and quirky Kark Rove really is.

What a wacky guy!
